These two images show how quickly a few hundred pixels can start to fill up a screen.
If you are uploading pictures you took yourself you are most likely going to need to scale them down first. A cell phone with a 1.3 megapixel camera (the most common) will generate an image of 1280 x 1024 pixels, and true digital camera will give you images much larger
Image editing software is easy to find and usually easy to use. On a Mac, iPhoto or Preview will handle the job. On Windows, MS paint among many others are available and free. Your digital camera likely came bundled with software that can help.
About 350 pixels in the biggest direction is usually all you want if you are going to place more than one image on a page. It is best to save the image as a jpg at a quality level in the mid range if possible. You can adjust the size of the picture in the editor on WikiValue, but that is best used for fine tuning.
